PETALING JAYA:
Jeneri assemblyman Sanusi Nor has been sworn in as the 15th Kedah menteri besar, a post he held before the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

Sanusi, 49, who is the Kedah Perikatan Nasional chief, took his oath of office before Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah at Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Setar at 10.15am today, Bernama reported.

He was re-elected in Jeneri on Saturday, defeating Barisan Nasional candidate Khizri Abu Kassim with a 16,050-vote majority.

PN won the state election, securing 33 of the 36 seats in the legislative assembly.

Sanusi had become the 14th menteri besar of Kedah in May 2020 after receiving the support of the majority of the assemblymen at that time.

His predecessor, Mukhriz Mahathir, had resigned from the top state post after his Pakatan Harapan-led coalition lost its majority support. This also came after the Sheraton Move in February 2020 which led to the collapse of the PH-led federal government.
