PETALING JAYA:
The Selangor government has given residents on 19 plots of land in Kampung Jawa, Klang, an additional two weeks to vacate the site to make way for the construction of a stalled stretch of the West Coast Expressway (WCE).

Sentosa assemblyman G Gunaraj said residents were in the midst of moving to their new homes and needed more time, especially the elderly among them.

In a statement, Gunaraj said he had urged Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari to consider giving an extension until the end of the month.

He expressed his gratitude to the menteri besar for providing comfortable housing for those who were truly in need and for considering his request.

State housing executive councillor Borhan Aman Shah confirmed that the two-week extension had been granted.

Last week, the state government ordered the 19 landowners to vacate the site in seven days.

The land acquisition process was legally completed under the Land Acquisition Act 1960 in 2023, but the landowners refused to vacate the site although 75% of RM9.85 million in compensation had already been paid to them.

Highway concessionaire WCE Sdn Bhd will be allowed to enter the site from Nov 24 for clean-up works before commencing construction.

The 233km-long highway, slated for completion in 2027, runs from Banting in Selangor to Taiping, Perak. Eight of its 11 sections have already been opened.
