Ampangan will see a three-cornered fight among PH’s Tengku Zamrah Sulaiman, Perikatan Nasional’s Ghazali Zainal Abidin and independent candidate Rafie Abdul Malek.
Rafie was recently sacked from PKR for contesting as an independent.
“Ampangan is an important seat as PKR was betrayed from within. And to betray a cause is one thing that cannot be allowed,” Anwar, who is also the PKR president, said at a ceramah here last night.
Wanting to teach traitors a lesson was also why he and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would be campaigning in Hulu Kelang on Thursday night, he said.
“In Malay lore, traitors are never forgiven.”
While he did not refer to anyone in particular, it is believed that Anwar was alluding to his former deputy, Azmin Ali, who led a faction of PKR MPs to join forces with Barian Nasional, Bersatu and PAS to topple the PH government in 2020.
Azmin, now contesting under the PN banner, will face PH’s Juwairiya Zulkifli, from PKR, in a straight fight in Hulu Kelang on Saturday.
In the 14th general election, the seat was won by Saari Sungib from PH with a 15,349-vote majority in a three-cornered fight against BN’s Ismail Ahmad and PAS’s Kamalulhysham Suhut.
