Amirudin to sue Sanusi for slander

Sanusi Nor has claimed that the Selangor government will lose RM180 million if a project linked to Berjaya Group founder Vincent Tan goes ahead as planned.

Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari (left) says he will initiate legal proceedings against caretaker Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor for a speech the latter delivered at a PN event in Kedah last night.
PETALING JAYA:
Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari will take legal action against his Kedah counterpart, Sanusi Nor, for allegedly slandering him during a Perikatan Nasional event in Jitra, Kedah, on Wednesday night.

According to PAS mouthpiece Harakah Daily, Sanusi claimed Amirudin was involved in a scandal with Berjaya Group founder Vincent Tan, who Sanusi claims intends to develop a RM10 billion project by acquiring 600 acres of land in Selangor.

In his speech, Sanusi also claimed that the project, which involves a company owned by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), will see Selangor lose around RM180 million.

“I strongly deny all these accusations and allegations,” said Amirudin in a statement.

“In fact, I addressed this matter extensively in the state assembly last year and earlier this year, as well as during a parliamentary session on March 1.

“I have discussed this with my lawyers, and I will initiate legal proceedings against Sanusi immediately for these slanderous statements.”

In the report, Sanusi questioned how Tan was given “600 acres for free” and claimed that the tycoon had also “taken over 55% of Selangor MBI”.

The PN election director also alleged that businessmen were robbing Selangor of its resources, adding that PN would not pay attention to such “projects by tycoons”.

“That’s his business, he (Amirudin) defends the tycoons. I am not like that; I want to defend the people of Kedah,” said Sanusi.

In his statement, Amirudin said Sanusi seemed “extremely desperate” to shift the public’s focus from his alleged links to illegal rare earth elements (REE) mining in Kedah.

Earlier this week, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail produced a photograph of Sanusi with a Chinese national he claimed was brought in by Menteri Besar Kedah (Incorporated) (Kedah MBI) to mine REE.

In response, Sanusi said one of the Chinese nationals had dealings with Kedah MBI and an agreement to extract REE before he took office.

Sanusi then claimed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had previously introduced Indonesian tycoon Riza Chalid to the prospect of mining REE in Kedah. He said Anwar and the tycoon had visited Kedah a few weeks before the state assembly was dissolved in June.

Earlier today, Anwar said his meeting with Riza had nothing to do with the REE mining business.
