Cop detained to assist probe into break-in at police exhibit store

A report had said that several items linked to narcotics cases had gone missing.

A police sergeant has been arrested to assist in the investigation into a break-in at the exhibit store of the Sepang district police headquarters last Friday, which resulted in items linked to narcotics cases going missing.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the policeman, who is with the commercial unit of the Sepang district police headquarters, was arrested yesterday.

“We are investigating the motive behind the incident and the value of the lost items,” Hussein told reporters after attending an event at Universiti Putra Malaysia here today.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, and that a remand order would be obtained against the policeman, in his 40s.

A police report that went viral recently stated that the store had been ransacked and case items had gone missing. Among the items stolen was a bag containing a laptop with information on the exhibits, the report said.

The report also mentioned that the store’s CCTV was damaged and not functioning.

Separately, Hussein said that as of yesterday, the police had received 16 reports of various election offences, including vandalism of party flags and posters.
