Penang PH, BN election hopefuls now known as ‘unity candidates’

State PH chief Chow Kon Yeow says this is to recognise PH and BN's cooperation and the 'state unity government' they will form if they win at the polls.

Chow Kon Yeow said PH and BN will present their ‘unity manifesto’ for the state on Aug 1.
GEORGE TOWN:
All Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional  (BN) candidates in Penang will henceforth be referred to as “unity candidates”, says state PH chief Chow Kon Yeow.

He said this was to recognise the cooperation between PH and BN and the “state unity government” they will form should they win at the Aug 12 polls.

“On Aug 1, we will present the unity manifesto for Penang and formally introduce our 40 unity candidates.

“To show our commitment to camaraderie, we will present all 40 hopefuls as unity candidates,” he told a press conference at the state DAP headquarters here.

Chow said the manifesto to be jointly developed by PH and BN will include the former PH state government’s promises and fulfil them in the coming term if elected.

Separately, he said all 19 DAP candidates had successfully filed their nomination papers this morning, with most of them facing straight fights.

He added that Penang will also see four three-cornered fights and three four-cornered fights.

Chow also announced that PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim will attend mega ceramahs on Aug 5, slated to be held on the island and Seberang Perai.

He later revealed DAP’s mascot for the state polls, a deer figurine called “Jaguh”, which would be sold at RM80 each. All proceeds from the sale of the mascot figurines will go toward the party’s election campaign funds.
