PETALING JAYA:
The by-election for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat will see a two-cornered fight between its former MP, Ahmad Amzad Hashim, and Pakatan Harapan’s Azan Ismail.

According to Astro Awani, Amzad and Azan were the only two candidates who submitted their nomination papers this morning.

Kuala Terengganu’s by-election will be held concurrently with the election in six states after Amzad’s victory in the last general election (GE15) was nullified by the election court.

Amzad, a former deputy science, technology and innovation minister, won the seat in GE15 with a whopping majority of 40,907 votes. He was first elected Kuala Terengganu MP in 2018.

However, his victory was nullified by the election court following allegations of vote-buying.

Bersih had said Amzad should be charged in court as the election court’s decision proved that corruption had taken place in the lead-up to the PAS man’s win in GE15.
