The source from Barisan Nasional says the seats mainly comprise those in which Bersatu contested in GE14 when it was part of Pakatan Harapan.

PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional (BN) will contest in 12 out of the 56 seats in the upcoming Selangor state elections, including two seats won by Pakatan Harapan (PH) previously, according to a source within the coalition.

The two seats in question are Gombak Setia and Dusun Tua.

In the 2018 general election (GE14), Gombak Setia was won by then PKR deputy youth chief Hilman Idham. He quit the party in 2020 and defected to Bersatu. Meanwhile, DAP’s Edry Faizal Yusof won the Dusun Tua seat.

The source added that Umno will also be contesting seats won by Bersatu in GE14, namely Batang Kali, Kuang, Jeram, Selat Klang and Dengkil.

“BN will defend our incumbent seats at Sungai Panjang, Sungai Burong, Semenyih and Sungai Air Tawar.

“We will also contest in Sijangkang that is currently held by the opposition,” the source told FMT.

BN were also said to have handed the Hulu Bernam seat to PH’s Amanah in exchange for Jeram.

All the seats will be contested by candidates from Umno, as the other main BN components, MCA and MIC, have decided to stay out of the upcoming state elections.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to announce the list of candidates at a special event tonight.

PH will be contesting in the remaining 44 seats in the Aug 12 polls.
