In a Facebook post, the former prime minister called on the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to probe Anwar’s claims.
“If he wants to disclose this, he should disclose everything, including (investigation papers) on current ministers,” said Mahathir.
“Even though I didn’t see them, I know there were investigation papers opened on Anwar himself.”
Mahathir said these investigation papers against Anwar were opened when he was prime minister, but did not specify if it was when he led the Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Harapan administrations.
On Sunday, while speaking at an event in Kedah, Anwar claimed there was “a file” with information on alleged wrongdoings by former Umno ministers who defected from the party before last year’s general election (GE15).
New Straits Times quoted the PKR president as claiming the former ministers had committed “numerous irregularities” while in power.
Mahathir reiterated that Anwar’s allegations should be probed and that legal action should be taken if the prime minister’s claims were true.
