The party admitted that it was facing difficulties in meeting its 30% target in fielding young candidates, its youth chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, said.
Fadhli said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had set the target a few years ago.
“I don’t think this (30% target) can be achieved in terms of new faces or young candidates. Ten per cent is still okay,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
However, he said Perikatan Nasional, of which PAS is a component together with Bersatu and Gerakan, was hoping to field many young candidates.
“But they don’t have to be PAS Youth members,” he said.
Fadhli also said PAS would appeal the Terengganu Election Court’s decision to invalidate Ahmad Amzad Hashim’s victory in the 15th general election after he was found to have been involved in corrupt practices to influence voters.
Amzad won the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat with a 40,907-vote majority.
“PAS will file an appeal and obtain a temporary order to retain the (seat) before the appeal is taken to the Federal Court,” he said.
