Muhyiddin downplays claim of rift with Hamzah

PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has described such claims as 'psychological warfare'.

Talks of a rift between Muhyiddin Yassin and Hamzah Zainudin have been fuelled by reports that the Bersatu secretary-general will be replaced as the opposition leader.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has dismissed claims of a rift with the coalition’s secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin.

Describing such claims as “psychological warfare”, Muhyiddin said cybertroopers and social media users were using such issues to paint PN in a bad light.

“Like what my deputy president said … This is done by those who don’t have anything else to attack us with. In fact, PN is the most harmonious party,” said Muhyiddin.

“PAS, Bersatu, and Gerakan have no problems with one another. We don’t even argue.

“This (rift) is deliberately being made up. Don’t believe it,” he added after a PN presidential council meeting here.

Talks of a rift between Muhyiddin and Hamzah, who are the president and secretary-general of Bersatu respectively, have been fuelled by reports that Hamzah will be replaced as the opposition leader in Parliament.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Bersatu leader recently told FMT that Muhyiddin and Hamzah have been at loggerheads on the direction the party should take.

The source also said the differences had to do with matters related to how PN and Bersatu ought to operate.

The source added that such matters include the narrative it should adopt when opposing the government and which seats to vie for in the coming state polls.

Offer for KJ to join Bersatu

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin declined to comment further on the offer to former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin to join Bersatu.

“He (Khairy) has already answered it on the (Keluar Sekejap) podcast … There’s no need to discuss it at length,” said Muhyiddin.

On the podcast yesterday, Khairy said he met Muhyiddin last Monday and was given more time to make a decision on whether to join Bersatu.

On May 17, Muhyiddin said Khairy would be offered a position on Bersatu’s Supreme Council if he joined the party.
