Sanusi’s Penang claim is act of incitement, says Zahid

The deputy prime minister says no one with a knowledge of history will have raised the subject in the first place.

Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says a state leader should know the constitution and legislation about the formation of the country.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor’s claim that Penang belongs to Kedah is an act of incitement, says deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the statement also showed that Sanusi displayed a poor understanding of history and the Federal Constitution because those who know will not bring up the matter.

On Monday, Sanusi was reported to have said that Kedah and Penang do not have a border because Penang still belongs to Kedah, claiming further that Kedah only shares a border with Perak and Perlis.

Zahid said as a state leader, Sanusi should understand the Federal Constitution and legislation behind the agreement between the two states, adding some agreements had been signed between the states during the era of colonialism.

“We reject colonialism, but it was the agreement that was translated into the Cobbold Commission for the formation of (the Federation) of Malaya,” he said.
