Boy in car-lorry crash succumbs to injuries

His three siblings and their mother died at the scene on the North-South Expressway near Kampar, Perak, early this morning.

A seven-year-old boy who was involved in an accident between a car and a lorry at Km310.2 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) near Kampar early this morning has succumbed to his injuries.

Kampar police chief Nazri Daud confirmed that Fawwaz Nasaruddin, who was in critical condition after the accident, died at 9.20am at Tapah Hospital.

In the 2.42am crash, Fawwaz’s three siblings – Ahmad Uwais Qorni, five, Siti Nur Aminah, eight, and Muhammad Azib, 23 – and their mother, Azriyani Abdul Latif, 45, died at the scene.

Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for death caused by reckless or dangerous driving.

He also urged those with information to contact the Kampar police headquarters’ traffic investigation officer, Arif Khariri, at 014-368 4870.

Earlier, Perak fire and rescue department assistant director (operations) Mohamadul Ehsan Zain said they received an emergency call at about 2am.

He said the car caught fire after crashing into the rear of the lorry. The lorry driver was unhurt.
