Kampar police chief Nazri Daud said a report was received at 6.42pm about the incident, which involved five cars and a motorcycle, driven or ridden by people aged between 19 and 59.

Sinar Harian reported Nazri as saying that the two children, aged seven and five, who were passengers in a Perodua Viva, sustained minor head injuries, while their 31-year-old mother complained of chest and knee pain.

Preliminary investigations found that the Viva was pulling out from the road shoulder in front of the school to head towards Malim Nawar town.

However, a Proton Satria approaching from the opposite direction is believed to have lost control, veering into the oncoming lane and ramming the front of the Viva, causing it to overturn.

The Satria also struck a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle ridden by a 19-year-old woman, throwing her onto the road.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries, including fractured ribs on the left side and a fractured right hip, and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

Three other cars at the scene could not avoid the collision, resulting in a multi-vehicle pile-up.

Initial checks found no trace of alcohol on the Satria driver’s breath. Further tests, including urine screening and blood alcohol analysis, are still being conducted.
