Sungai Buloh police chief Shafa’aton Abu Bakar said they were arrested after a 15-year-old girl lodged a report yesterday.
He said a preliminary investigation revealed that the incident was believed to have occurred in a hotel in January and the girl was not attending school then.
“We will detain both suspects who are now in custody at the Kuala Selangor district police headquarters. The duration of the detention will be determined by the court tomorrow,” he said.
Utusan Malaysia quoted Shafa’aton as saying the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor police chief Ramli Kasa said an investigation will also be conducted under Sections 5 and 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 following the girl’s police report.
Section 14 deals with physical sexual assault on a child while Section 5 deals with producing child pornography.
On May 4, Bernama reported that a 33-year-old woman had been remanded for five days to assist in investigations into a case of sexual assault against her 14-year-old son.
The suspect was arrested at her home in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam, after police received a report from a social welfare department officer.
The welfare officer had contacted the police after receiving information about the alleged abuse through a video obtained from an unknown person.
