Suspended Umno man yet to decide on PN’s election offer

Former Jempol MP Salim Sharif says 'anything is possible' after confirming that Perikatan Nasional had offered to field him as an election candidate.

Salim Sharif was suspended by Umno for allegedly sabotaging the party’s campaign at the 2022 general election.
PETALING JAYA:
Former Jempol MP and suspended Umno leader Salim Sharif has yet to decide if he will accept an offer from Perikatan Nasional to contest in the coming Negeri Sembilan state elections under its banner.

“I have not decided yet, but anything is possible since we don’t know what the future holds. I want to be at peace after my wife’s passing, and I want to give my attention to my family first,” he said, according to Berita Harian.

Yesterday, Negeri Sembilan PN deputy chairman Rafiei Mustapha confirmed that the party had made the offer of candidature to Salim and former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy, who was sacked from Umno, would be made PN’s “poster boy” and the face of its campaign in Negeri Sembilan, as well as the menteri besar candidate.

Others who were suspended with Salim were Barisan Nasional treasurer-general Hishammuddin Hussein, former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan and Tebrau Umno leader Maulizan Bujang.

Former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar was sacked from the party.
