Newlyweds remanded 6 days for drug trafficking

PETALING JAYA:
A newlywed couple, who were arrested with 9.26kg of heroin at a mosque in Chikus, Langkap, on Tuesday, have been remanded for six days.

Magistrate T Ashvinii issued the remand order, from today until Monday, against the suspects aged 23 and 24, at the Teluk Intan magistrates’ court, Sinar Harian reported.

The suspects, who were married on Monday, were arrested by a team from the Hilir Perak district police headquarters.

They were arrested for trafficking and administering drugs.

The drugs, which the police believe were intended for distribution outside the district, were confiscated when the couple was seated in a car, believed to be waiting for customers.

The newlyweds, who are unemployed, also tested positive for methamphetamine and they had a record of previous drug convictions.
