
Police acted after receiving a report of the incident which went viral on social media on Sunday night.
The man was arrested to assist in the investigation and was released on bail on Monday.
The preliminary investigation found that the man, who is believed to live in the vicinity of the surau, had been upset by the loudspeakers’ blaring at high volume.
“All parties involved cooperated with the police, with other witnesses called to provide evidence,” the Kajang district police said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code for causing damage to a place of worship, which carries a maximum prison sentence of two years, a fine, or both, if convicted.
The incident is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of network facilities.
Police urged the public to refrain from speculating on the incident.
