Bangladeshi labourer dies after falling into river in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG:
A Bangladeshi labourer died after falling into Sungai Nenggiri while working at the Tenaga Nasional Berhad hydroelectric project site in Kampung Star here yesterday.

Gua Musang district police chief Sik Choon Foo said the victim, Kashem Sikdar, 35, fell into the river while climbing on iron pipes about noon.

“The victim was wearing personal protective equipment at the time.

“The accident was witnessed by a supervisor who saw the victim fall with the pipes into the river.

“Strong currents hampered rescue efforts. The victim’s body was found at 12.40pm,” he said in a statement today.

Sik said investigations showed no criminal elements.

The victim’s remains were later sent to Gua Musang Hospital.
