According to a source, the men, aged 40 to 57, were arrested separately between 5pm and 12pm yesterday after they were asked to appear at the Selangor MACC office.
“A 52-year-old man believed to be the owner of the company is being probed over the alleged submission of a false payment claim amounting to more than RM760,000 for maintenance work at a school in Batu Arang in 2020 that did not follow procedure,” said the source.
“The suspect was arrested at about 11pm at the Selangor MACC office.”
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old contractor was arrested at about 9.30pm on suspicion of submitting false claims in 2020 amounting to more than RM860,000 although the work was not fully carried out.
Another four men suspected of submitting false claims worth more than RM870,000 involving the maintenance work of a school in Semenyih, Selangor, in 2020, although the work was not fully carried out, were also arrested, said the source.
One of the suspects was released on MACC bail due to health reasons.
A five-day remand order until March 27 was issued against the other five suspects by Shah Alam magistrate Nur Syuhada Abdullah this morning following an application by MACC.
When contacted, Selangor MACC director Alias Salim confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
