Apologise for calling GPS ‘opportunist’, Rodiyah tells PH MP

The Batang Sadong MP says the increase in allocations for Sarawak in the recent budget show GPS has been fighting for the state's rights.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak managed to secure more allocations for the state in the recent budget, Rodiyah Sapiee said.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) has called on Chong Chieng Jen (PH-Stampin) to apologise for calling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) “opportunist” and claiming that the coalition had failed to fight for the state’s rights.

Rodiyah said the allocations for Sarawak in the recent budget showed otherwise.

“The budget allocations for Sarawak (this year) is RM5.6 billion, compared with RM4.4 billion in 2020.

“Additionally, Sarawak will now receive (a special grant of) RM300 million compared with RM32 million previously, as stipulated under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution.

“This shows that the GPS-led state government has successfully convinced the federal government to offer better allocations,” she said while debating the budget in Dewan Rakyat.

She said she was disappointed with Chong’s remarks and urged him to apologise to all Sarawakians, the GPS chairman as well as all GPS MPs.

Last week, while debating the budget, Chong appeared to take shots at GPS for supposedly being opportunistic when deciding to support Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.

Separately, Batang Lupar MP Shafizan Kepli also used the budget debate to give Chong a few words of advice.

The GPS MP compared the government to a boat that was captained by Anwar, with the 23 GPS MPs and their colleagues from other coalitions all rowing to ensure that the boat “reaches the finish line”.

“So, don’t rock the boat as we can run aground,” he warned.

“If you are serious about giving priority to Sarawak, there’s no need to politicise the budget.”
