PETALING JAYA:
The magistrates’ court today ordered a former senior military officer to pay a fine of RM6,000 for enticing a married woman with the intention of having sexual relations with her seven years ago.

Azmi Ali, 48, pleaded guilty after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah.

He will serve a jail term of five months if he fails to pay the fine.

The offence was committed at a house in Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan, Selangor in 2016.

Azmi’s lawyer, Azman Zakaria, pleaded for a lighter sentence, saying that Azmi, a first offender, was married with two children.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Maryam Jamilah Kamal asked the court to take into account that the victim’s former husband had suffered a major depression as a result of the incident.

Azmi was charged under Section 498 of the Penal Code, which prescribes a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
