A source close to the matter said MACC was now in the final stage of its probe concerning the alleged RM300 million that Bersatu was said to have received as political funds from contractors who were awarded projects during his administration.
It was previously reported that the sum was allegedly accumulated from contractors who were awarded projects between March 2020 and August 2021 during Muhyiddin’s tenure as prime minister.
“MACC had also recorded statements from several other leaders from the party and is expected to wrap up the probe within the next two weeks,” the source said.
The investigation paper would subsequently be submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) for further instruction.
On Tuesday, the anti-graft agency had frozen two Bersatu bank accounts which contained a total of RM40 million.
Prior to its probe on Bersatu’s party funds, the MACC had in January frozen the party’s accounts in connection with an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of billions of ringgit meant for Covid-19 stimulus packages.
Muhyiddin had previously denied claims his government had misappropriated RM92.5 billion when he was the prime minister.
FMT has attempted to reach out to Bersatu and Muhyiddin’s aide for comments.
