Ahmad Yahya (PN-Pokok Sena) said the continued use of the medicine may lead to more people embracing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) lifestyle.
“I hope the minister will look into this drug programme. This is not because we are against the ministry’s stance to save the lives of those who are at risk of HIV.
“However, we need a comprehensive approach to ensure that the (number of) gays and the LGBT community does not grow in the country.
“This is the view that should be highlighted by the ministry,” Ahmad said during the debate on the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat.
He said the health ministry has to consider religious and moral implications when handling this issue, including holding discussions with the Islamic development department (Jakim) and the state mufti before continuing to prescribe PrEP.
Speaking on controlling the number of LGBT in the country, Ahmad said the government should provide statistics and the reason why the lifestyle is spreading.
“The government must also enact a policy to reject the demands of the LGBT community when it comes to gender identity, which is an issue championed by the community.
“At the same time, the government also needs to enact a policy to block social media platforms, based in or outside the country, that contain LGBT elements and strengthen policies related to family institutions to reduce LGBT influence entering the country,” he said.
He said the LGBT culture not only invites social problems but also invites the wrath of God.
The Selangor mufti department recently opposed the dispensing of PrEP to those who “practise a homosexual lifestyle”, saying it would be a form of complicity in sin.
