
Khairul Fahmy Yasin, who runs the Durian Atok stall at Jalan Kebun Kampung Batu 7, said he believed that Menu Rahmah should not be limited to daily meals and could be extended to other food.
He introduced “Durian Rahmah” last week, selling 50 packs in just 10 minutes at RM4.99 per pack of about 400g
“I was pleasantly surprised. Previously, I sold for RM8 to RM9 per container. I keep adding containers because the demand is high. There were even people from Skudai, Johor, who came to my stall for durians.
“Yesterday, 600 packs of Durian Rahmah were sold, and we may increase the quantity if demand increases,” he said, adding the reception that his RM5 pack of durians had obtained was unexpected.
Each pack contains a mixture of kampung durian and the D24 variety. The stall only starts selling the Durian Rahmah packs at 2.30pm, with each customer only allowed to purchase two containers at a time.
Khairul also sells other types of durians at his stall, as well as durian cendol at RM4 a bowl.
The Menu Rahmah initiative was launched by domestic trade and cost of living minister Salahuddin Ayub on Jan 31, with about 15,000 food outlets taking part to help reduce the cost of living for the public, especially the poor.
Salahuddin had said the programme did not involve any government expenditure, while his ministry was open to anyone who wanted to use the “Rahmah” brand to help the people.
