SHAH ALAM:
Selangor Umno has looked into the seats it wants to contest in the coming state assembly elections, the party’s state leader Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said.

He said the party will discuss the matter at the state Barisan Nasional, and the state BN would then have discussions with Pakatan Harapan on the distribution of seats for the elections.

“What’s important is that at the Umno level it is settled…we are ready now to sit and discuss it. It is up to PH to think about how to begin the discussions in the spirit of a unity government,” he said at a press conference here today.

He said although Umno and BN did not succeed in winning any parliamentary seats in Selangor in the general election in November, the party managed to garner a lot of votes, especially in Malay majority areas.

“I think this must be the basis of our negotiations when we begin the discussions (with PH),” he said.

Zulkarnain said he would meet leaders of the Tanjong Karang division tomorrow to boost their morale for the state election.

The former division chief Noh Omar and two other divisional members were recently expelled for breaching party discipline.

Zulkarnain said Subang Umno division chief Armand Azha Abu Hanifah had offered himself as a candidate for the Umno Youth chief’s post in the 2023 party elections.

Wanita Umno secretary Rosni Sohar, Hulu Langat division chief Johan Abdul Aziz and  Selangor Umno information chief and Sungai Besar division leader Jamal Yunos hoped to contest for seats on the Umno Supreme Council.
