He said, previously, other Umno leaders were also denied the opportunity to defend themselves and had been suspended or expelled from the party solely based on the decision of the party’s Supreme Council, instead of having their case go through the party’s disciplinary board, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“Such matters should go through the party’s disciplinary board, but the Supreme Council has made many unilateral decisions. They’ve been making decisions without referring to the disciplinary board,” he was quoted as saying.
He cited former Umno Supreme Council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and former Alor Setar Umno chief Yusof Ismail as examples where the party disciplinary board was not involved in the decision to suspend or expel them.
The former Umno Youth chief also said he had not received any letter from the party’s disciplinary board nor had he been summoned to show cause.
“I haven’t received anything from the disciplinary board. There has been no attempt to reach me either.
“So, I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m not consulted on the matter or if the Umno Supreme Council decides to bring up my issue or that of my fellow party members,” he said.
Umno is expected to hold a Supreme Council meeting tonight to discuss action against Khairy for claiming that dirty tactics were employed to ensure a no-contest motion for Umno’s two top posts was passed at the recent general assembly.
Khairy previously claimed that the motion to bar contests for the posts of party president and deputy president would most likely be bulldozed through when it came up for a vote.
In a TikTok video, the former Rembau MP alleged that name tags on the chairs of delegates had been removed so as to bring “imported delegates” to push through the motion.
The party’s general assembly passed the motion to bar contests for the post of president and deputy president, ensuring that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Mohamad Hasan would not be challenged at the party’s elections, which must be held by May 19.
Yesterday, Zahid told a press conference the Umno Supreme Council will be deciding on Khairy’s fate, as well as that of “saboteurs” in its meeting tonight.
