Supreme Council only discussed general assembly, say Umno leaders

The political turmoil in Sabah was not brought up, but will be discussed at the next meeting.

Party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the Umno Supreme Council did not discuss the attempted ‘coup’ by Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin.
PETALING JAYA:
The Umno Supreme Council meeting tonight only focused on the itinerary for the general assembly tomorrow, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

The attempted “coup” by Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin to topple chief minister Hajiji Noor was not raised, Zahid said.

Calls for the top two posts in the party to be contested at the coming Umno polls and elections due in six states were also not discussed.

Zahid said the meeting discussed the president’s keynote address.

“We looked at reports from other members of the Supreme Council and we spoke about tomorrow’s general assembly,” he told reporters at the party’s headquarters today.

Supreme Council member Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the meeting held this evening was routine in nature and held after all the party’s wings had held their gatherings.

“This is a special meeting before the annual general assembly. No new issues were discussed.”

Meanwhile, Bung said the political turmoil in Sabah — which subsequently saw him removed as deputy chief minister — would be discussed at the next meeting.

The four-day general assembly ends on Saturday.
