In a Facebook post, the former Simpang Renggam MP said Anwar had actually instructed him to help PKR and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming state elections, especially in the PKR-led states of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
Maszlee also said he had agreed to help the Selangor and Negeri Sembilan menteris besar tour the two states soon for the state polls.
“Aside from the state elections, I have offered to go to schools to motivate teachers and lift their spirits. I hope I can bring inspiration while carrying the government’s and education minister Fadlina Sidek’s voice to the teachers through this.
“No (government posts) were promised (by Anwar). For now, what he asked for is for me to make sacrifices for the sake of the people.”
Maszlee, formerly with Bersatu and Pejuang, joined PKR in November and is a member of the party’s central leadership committee.
He failed to defend his Simpang Renggam seat in the Nov 19 general election and had also lost the contest for the Layang-Layang seat in the Johor state election last year.
Earlier today, FMT reported that Maszlee could make a comeback through the defunct National Education Advisory Council (NEAC), which he set up in 2018, which was due to be revived by the new government.
A senior PH MP said Maszlee would be the best candidate for a position on the NEAC, having been an academic before becoming the education minister when PH formed the government in 2018.
The council was established under Maszlee’s stint for a two-year term to give ideas and views to the ministry for setting the direction of the national education system.
The NEAC was not revived under the Perikatan Nasional government that took over after the PH government was ousted in 2020.
