
He said the investigations involved 224 personnel comprising 23 officers, 200 policemen and one civil servant.
“Action was taken against 92 people, while 15 were cleared of any offence, though some were issued letters of reprimand or advice,” he told reporters after the Penang police monthly assembly at the Batu Uban marine police headquarters today.
“There was no further action on another 52, while 49 are still in the process of responding to the investigations or awaiting a decision. The remaining 16 are still under investigation.
“Last year, the Penang integrity and standards compliance department (JIPS) successfully completed 132 investigation papers. A total of 21 officers and policemen were detained, six were suspended and 12 sacked.”
He said the drop in the number of disciplinary investigations was the result of initiatives carried out by JIPS, including the frequency of compliance checks, field training, monitoring, department audits and meeting sessions.
Shuhaily also said police carried out 159 street gang operations in Penang last year, resulting in 108 arrests.
Police also carried out 126 drink-driving operations, during which 220 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and 1,079 vehicles were seized.
“A total of 422,177 summonses were issued throughout last year, compared with 377,457 recorded in 2021,” he said.
“As many as 35,897 summonses were settled last year, with a total collection of RM7.5 million, compared with 183,964 summonses, involving RM15.10 million, recorded in 2021.”
