Sepang police chief Norhizam Bahaman said police received a report on the incident before arresting a 22-year-old man, who is a private university student, on the same day.
He said the victim, 34, is in critical but stable condition and is currently being treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital.
“The suspect and victim were not acquainted. The suspect had recently rented a room in the same apartment unit, which has two rooms,” he said in a statement today.
“Ten statements from witnesses have been recorded.
“The victim’s urine test was negative for drugs and he has no prior criminal record.”
Norhizam said the suspect is being remanded for seven days until April 16 to help in the investigations for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.
He urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information and speculation, as it could hinder the police investigation and incite public disorder.
