PETALING JAYA:
Police are tightening border checks to prevent escaped Pakistani detainee Muhammad Hassan, 24, from fleeing the country, says Sungai Buloh police chief Hafiz Nor.

He said the manhunt has been scaled up with help from the General Operations Force and the police’s internal security and public order department, among others.

“Public safety is not under threat, but people must stay vigilant and not take things lightly,” Bernama reported him as saying today.

Yesterday, the prisons department said it was working with the police and other security agencies to track down Muhammad, who escaped from Sungai Buloh prison on Thursday.

Muhammad, who was detained over child sexual offences, escaped from police custody while being transferred to prison after completing court proceedings in Shah Alam.

Earlier, Hafiz said he was last seen wearing an orange T-shirt and black trousers.
