PETALING JAYA:
Popular textile outlet Jakel Shah Alam caught fire again early this morning, just two days after a similar incident destroyed almost 80% of the three-storey building in Section 7, Shah Alam.

This time, the fire started from the 30×40 square metre curtain storage on the building’s third floor, according to Astro Awani.

Selangor fire and rescue department chief Norazam Khamis said a total of 43 personnel from six stations were deployed to put out the blaze following an emergency call received at 12.40am.

The fire was brought under control by 1.45am and completely extinguished at 3.07pm. No one was hurt.

On Sunday, a fire broke out at the outlet, believed to have started from the men’s clothing section on the first floor.

Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim was reported to have said that the fire was caused by a short circuit.

The textile retailer was estimated to have suffered a loss of almost RM100 million after the incident on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Jakel Group managing director Faroz Jakel today refuted talk that the fires were started to make an insurance claim.

He was quoted by Utusan Malaysia as saying that such talk was “absurd” and that the textile group’s business was thriving, with its malls being crowded with shoppers for the recent end-of-year sale.
