Lecturer collapses and dies at Langkawi half marathon

He collapsed and fell unconscious near the finish line, and died on the way to hospital, police said.

A Universiti Putra Malaysia senior lecturer has died after collapsing during an international half-marathon race in Langkawi this morning.

Langkawi police chief Shariman Ashari said Nik Mohd Faiz Nik Mohd Azmi, 37, was reported to have died on the way to the hospital.

Preliminary investigations found that he collapsed near the finish line of the race and became unconscious.

Medical and Civil Defence Force personnel administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation. A doctor with the Sultanah Maliha Hospital’s emergency services reported that Faiz had died on the way there.
