Police have welcomed the government’s move to expedite the procurement of body cameras for on-duty officers.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the body cameras would be fully utilised to ensure policemen fulfil their duties to the best of their ability.

“We are confident that using body cameras will strengthen the level of integrity, professionalism and transparency among officers when on duty,” he said in a statement.

Yesterday, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that the government had approved an allocation of RM30 million to obtain body cameras for use by policemen on duty.

He said the procurement process was in progress, adding that he hoped it would be expedited as body cameras were now a necessity.
