
Its chief, Ahmad Yahya, said PH’s alleged foreign funding was more urgent and “dangerous” as it exposed the nation to foreign influences, adding that there has yet to be any probe on the matter.
“The more pressing matter is PH’s alleged receipt of foreign funds which had sparked concern among many previously. The irony is that there has yet to be any probe or answer on this matter,” he said in a statement.
In 2018, International Republican Institute (IRI) president Daniel Twining said the IRI had been working with opposition parties in Malaysia since 2002 with the help of the US-based National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
Twining was heard in a video saying the IRI had worked to strengthen Malaysian opposition parties for 15 years through NED resources.
He also reportedly said he had met leaders of the then PH government after the 14th general election.
Ahmad said Anwar Ibrahim’s claim that PN was funded by gambling companies, particularly those that took part in “special draws” for 4D numbers, was far-fetched.
“PN’s commitment on the issue of gambling is clear. The Kedah state government has already shown its commitment through its decision to shut down gambling premises in the state from 2023, following Kelantan and Terengganu’s footsteps.
“Since when have gambling companies been friendly with PN to the point of being willing to fund our election campaign?” he questioned, adding that legal action should be taken against Anwar over his claim.
Earlier, Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal lodged a police report against Anwar for implying that part of the coalition’s funds for its GE15 campaign came from gambling companies.
