PETALING JAYA:
International trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz was absent from the first Cabinet meeting of the Anwar Ibrahim-led federal government.

According to Berita Harian, a source said Tengku Zafrul was in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a trade mission.

“He is in Abu Dhabi on official business.”

The source told the Malay daily that it was not true Tengku Zafrul was in Qatar to watch the World Cup, adding that an official statement will be made tomorrow.

In an earlier article, Berita Harian quoted a source as saying Tengku Zafrul did not attend the Cabinet meeting as he had matters to attend to in Qatar, without elaborating whether it was a work or personal trip.

That article has since been taken down.

Anwar chaired his Cabinet’s first meeting this morning during a special meeting at Putrajaya which started at 10am.

The Cabinet line-up, comprising two deputy prime ministers and 28 ministers, was announced on Friday by Anwar, who is also the finance minister.
