PETALING JAYA:
Rapid Rail believes that today’s disruptions on the Kelana Jaya LRT line may have been caused by a lightning strike at the Kerinchi LRT station.

“The disruption (at 5.46pm) was caused by the Platform Intrusion Emergency Stop (PIES), which was suddenly activated after a suspected lightning strike at the Kerinchi LRT station, preventing trains from both directions from passing through the area,” said Rapid Rail in a statement.

“As a result of the disruption, all trains passing through the area had to be driven manually. This resulted in timetable delays and congestion at some station platforms.”

Apologising to the commuters affected by the disruption, Rapid Rail said that its technical staff were currently on-site carrying out repairs.

It added that buses had been deployed to ferry passengers to and from the Bangsar LRT and Pasar Seni LRT stations, as well as the KLCC LRT and Pasar Seni LRT stations.

In a Facebook post this evening, RapidKL advised commuters on the Kelana Jaya LRT line to expect delays in train frequencies at several stations following a technical glitch with a train.

It said the frequency of train services at several stations between Kerinchi and Ampang Park would be delayed to about 15 minutes after a train had to be taken out of service.

The Kelana Jaya LRT line was in the headlines earlier this month when 16 stations had to be shut down for about a week.

On Nov 11, then transport minister Wee Ka Siong said the problem was rectified after the modem and power supply system for the tracks were replaced.
