The proposal had been made by Umno Supreme Council member Razlan Rafii earlier today. He had said that based on Umno’s hierarchy, Zahid as party president was most fitting for the role.
PBRS president Fredie Sua said the post should be given to Zahid as Barisan Nasional was a main partner in the government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Zahid is not only qualified, but has extensive experience in governing the country, Sua said.
He said Zahid, as MP for Bagan Datuk, had the right to be appointed to the post as he had yet to be convicted of any wrongdoing.
Zahid has pending court cases on charges of corruption and money laundering.
Sua said legal cases against politicians were among the challenges that needed to be addressed, adding he was confident the court process will be implemented fairly.
