PETALING JAYA:
Barisan Nasional (BN) has returned to dominance in Negeri Sembilan after it regained two parliamentary seats from its rivals and defended three others in the general election (GE15).

BN’s Adnan Abu Hassan won the Kuala Pilah seat previously held by Perikatan Nasional (PN), while Esam Mohd Isa wrested the Tampin seat back from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Berita Harian reported.

Both seats had been long-time BN fixed deposits until the last general election (GE14).

Meanwhile, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan retained the Rembau seat for BN, as did Jalaluddin Alias in Jelebu and Shamsulkahar Mohd Deli in Jempol.

These victories meant BN controls five of the eight parliamentary seats in Negeri Sembilan.

The remaining three seats, Seremban, Rasah and Port Dickson were won by PH.

Mohamad, commonly known as Tok Mat, sprung a surprise by increasing BN’s majority in Rembau to 19,897 votes.

In GE14, its former MP Khairy Jamaluddin won the seat with a 4,364 vote majority.

Mohamad, the BN elections director defeated candidates from PH, PN, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and Pejuang.

BN’s success in Negeri Sembilan this time around will be a boost for the coalition ahead of the state election which is likely to be held next year.
