PETALING JAYA:
A group representing old folks’ homes is calling on the public to help send their 6,000 residents to vote tomorrow.
Santok Singh.

Association of Aged Care Operators (AgeCope) vice-president Santok Singh said they are stretched thin as there are fewer people working in aged care centres following the pandemic.

With the shortage of staff among AgeCope’s 300 members, he said, it would be impossible for operators of the homes to send their residents to their voting centres.

“We would like to urge those who can volunteer to help out,” he told FMT.

“We would also like to appeal to government agencies, political parties, NGOs and individuals to provide a special lane for the elderly at the voting centres.

“The senior citizens have a part to play in deciding who should lead the government.”

Santok said there are 2,300 old folks’ homes catering to some 50,000 senior citizens in the country.
