
“They want to see fairness for all. Don’t discriminate,” he said during a Facebook panel discussion hosted by Khairy Jamaluddin today.
Chong said there is a perception within the Chinese community that the government does not help them, adding that this needs to be changed in the next five years.
“I think the Chinese (community) do not look to the government (for help), but that does not mean they don’t need the government,” the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Raub said.
He also said the Chinese want fair pro-business policies that do not impose restrictions and limitations that would hamper growth and economic expansion.
BN’s Kuala Langat candidate, Mohana Muniandy Raman, said if the coalition wins the general election, it will champion female empowerment beyond just 30% representation in politics and government.
“We’ve always been talking about 30% (female representation), but I don’t think it should be just 30% but based on ability and capacity,” she said.
She said female politicians should be given more challenging roles at policy-making levels and not just be put in charge of the women’s ministry, citing the example of Rafidah Aziz, who was formerly international trade and industry minister.
