KOTA KINABALU:
The Kinabatangan seat will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s Bung Moktar Radin and Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek Chua.

Warisan was supposed to field Ismail Ayub as its candidate but due to a technical error, Mazliwati, an MA63 activist and Warisan Supreme Council member, was selected instead.

According to Mazliwati, the Election Commission rejected Ismail’s nomination papers as he had failed to disclose his expenses in the last election.

“I am a parachute candidate, but I thank the party leadership for giving me the opportunity to contest,” she said when contacted.

The Kinabatangan constituency has 44,564 registered voters, a 55.1% increase from the previous number of registered voters in 2018.

In the last general election, Bung, who is the Sabah BN chairman, polled 14,465 votes to beat two other candidates – MA Ghazali Abdul Ghani (Warisan) and Mustapa Datu Tambuyong (Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah) – to win with a majority of 9,478 votes.
