The RM15 million demand was made as Sova Ali, 40, claimed that no reasonable grounds of divorce were provided, nor did Azlan obtain permission from the shariah court.
Sova said her ex-husband stands to be charged for divorcing her without prior permission at the lower shariah court in Hulu Langat.
She also claimed that she endured hardship in her marriage to Azlan before being divorced “on a whim later on”.
Sova said she was also seeking over RM300,000 in “overdue” alimony, as she allegedly did not receive financial support from Azlan during “certain periods” in the marriage.
She said the matter had been set for mediation at the shariah high court in Shah Alam on Dec 15. She said the same court had allowed a summons to be served in Perlis, where Azlan is based.
Sova said she planned to file two more suits to claim properties acquired in the country and overseas during their marriage, while another suit was being mulled to claim nafkah iddah or maintenance payments.
Sova, an Indonesian, married Azlan, 63, on March 21, 2010, and they divorced after 12 years on Aug 25.
Syarie lawyers Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar and Shafiq Ibrahim will represent Sova in the above cases.
