
He is expected to be challenged by Kedah DAP vice-chairman Zulhazmi Shariff, the only candidate named to represent the opposition party in the state.
“Normally, DAP candidates in Malay-majority seats do not get much support. This time, however, DAP is fielding a Malay candidate who is also a local,” Jamil told reporters after an event at the state’s BN headquarters.
Jamil, a former minister, said he will be banking on BN’s track record to retake the seat it lost to PAS at GE14 by a mere 539 votes.
BN’s candidates for seats in Kedah have been well received by grassroots members, he said, adding that there have been no complaints about the coalition’s state lineup.
