PKR yet to decide on giving up seats to PSM, Muda

Rafizi Ramli says further negotiations will be held before a final decision is made in the next few days.

Rafizi Ramli said the Sungai Siput, Tapah and Sembrong seats are allocated to PKR but the party omitted the names of candidates during the announcement of PKR candidates for GE15 last night.
PETALING JAYA:
PKR has yet to decide on whether it would give up the Sungai Siput, Tapah and Sembrong seats to Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and Muda in the general election (GE15), PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said.

“These seats are allocated to PKR, but since it has been flagged by Muda or PSM, we will go through further negotiations before making a final decision in the next few days,” he told reporters last night following the announcement of the list of PKR’s 72 parliamentary candidates at a party event in Ampang.

PSM had recently asked Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the Sungai Siput seat and two unspecified state seats ahead of the general election. PSM did not intend to formally join PH as a component party and only sought an electoral pact for GE15.

PSM chief Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj was a two-term Sungai Siput MP from 2008 to 2018 but lost to PKR’s S Kesavan in the last general election (GE14) in 2018.

Muda, on the other hand, has yet to publicly indicate which seats it was after, but has agreed to PH’s three conditions for their electoral pact, including the party’s backing for PH’s prime ministerial candidate.

The other two conditions are that no party would demand to contest in seats held by their respective incumbents and that Muda will need to obtain the PH presidential council’s permission if it wanted to work with other parties.
