PAS to use PN logo in Kedah, says Sanusi

The move contradicts a statement from PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that Kedah will follow Kelantan and Terengganu in using its own logo in GE15.

Kedah Perikatan Nasional chief Sanusi Md Nor said with the use of the PN logo, no one should question the unity between the component parties.
PETALING JAYA:
Kedah PAS candidates will not use the party logo and will stand under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner in the general election (GE15), says state coalition chief Sanusi Md Nor.

He said this after announcing that the Islamic party will contest in eight of the 15 parliamentary seats in Kedah while Bersatu will contest the other seven, Astro Awani reported.

“Let’s not allow the enemy to divide us because of our previous differences regarding the use of logos,” Sanusi said at a PN event in Alor Setar last night.

“Now in Kedah, our logo is the same – PN,” said Sanusi, who is also the Kedah menteri besar.

The move contradicts a statement from PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang earlier this month that the party had decided to use its own logo in the three states under its administration – Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah. Hadi said it was because voters in these states were familiar with it.

Sanusi, added that PN component parties, especially PAS and Bersatu, managed to complete seat negotiations in Kedah after only three discussions.

He said PN will deploy several strategies to capture “difficult to win” seats such as Langkawi and Alor Setar, which were previously held by Pejuang’s Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PKR’s Chan Ming Kai, respectively.

Sanusi added that PN will also focus on seats won by opposition candidates with a majority of less than 2,000 votes in the last general election (GE14) in 2018, such as Padang Terap and Baling.

On Oct 22, Kedah Gerakan chief M Marimuthu Selvan said the party decided to sit out the parliamentary polls because PN had decided to use the PAS logo in the state.

He added that the decision was made by the party’s central leadership but he emphasised that this would not affect its cooperation with PAS.

“We want to use the PN logo, but since PAS has insisted that we use theirs, we are opting out in Kedah,” Marimuthu said.

Gerakan had intended to contest the parliamentary seats of Alor Setar and Sungai Petani, both of which have a sizeable non-Malay population.
