PETALING JAYA:
Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa and secretary-general Hatta Ramli will be defending their Parit Buntar and Lumut parliamentary seats, respectively, in the 15th general election (GE15).

The two Amanah leaders were among the 26 candidates for GE15 that the party unveiled. The Pakatan Harapan (PH) component party will be contesting for six parliamentary seats and 20 state seats.

The 20 state seats are an increase from the 12 seats the party was allocated in the last general election (GE14) in 2018, while the six parliamentary seats are two more than the last polls.

Mujahid had been the Parit Buntar MP since 2008, and Hatta first won the Lumut seat in 2018. Hatta also won the Kuala Krai seat in Kelantan in 2008 and 2013.

In the 2008 and 2013 general elections, Mujahid and Hatta contested under PAS, which was then part of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition with PKR and DAP.

Wanita Muda Amanah chief Nurthaqaffah Nordin has been named as the candidate for the Parit parliamentary seat.

Perak Amanah chief Asmuni Awi will be seeking to defend his Manjoi state seat for another term having first won it in the last general election.

Former Perak menteri besar Nizar Jamaluddin will also be defending his Sungai Rapat seat, which he won for the first time in GE14. His previous success in state seats was in Pasir Panjang (2008) and Changkat Jering (2013).

Perak has 24 parliamentary and 59 state seats.

GE15 will take place on Nov 19, with nomination day on Nov 5 and early voting set for Nov 15.
