Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the candidate has been proposed by the Perak Umno leadership, Bernama reported.
Aminuddin would come up against Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim, who had announced that he would contest the seat at the general election, and Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
Faizal had won in Tambun in 2018 with a 5,320-vote majority in a three-cornered contest against BN and PAS.
Zahid welcomed Anwar’s candidacy in Perak, which Zahid described as BN’s stronghold. “If any party wants to try, we welcome their attempts,” he said.
When asked whether Tajuddin Abdul Rahman would be fielded to seek re-election in Pasir Salak, Zahid said the matter would be submitted to the party’s selection committee.
The party’s selection committee have been asked to identify a suitable seat for Khairy Jamaluddin, who has announced he would make way for Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan to contest the Rembau seat.
