KUALA LUMPUR:
Malaysians have been told not to worry about the country’s security despite allegations of an active foreign intelligence agency operating in the country.

Caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he was waiting for a report from the police and the National Security Council (MKN) regarding the alleged involvement of Israel’s Mossad in the abduction of a Palestinian man in Malaysia.

“I have not received a detailed report from MKN and the police on the Mossad issue as well as on a report about an Israeli citizen (who entered Malaysia using another passport).

“I will be meeting with the Inspector-General of Police (Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani) and the MKN and all related agencies to obtain the reports,” Bernama quoted him as telling reporters after officiating the Mega Micropreneurs and Hawkers Fiesta at Dataran Merdeka here today.

He was asked to comment on a report published by a local English-language newspaper that claimed Mossad was behind the abduction of a Palestinian, Omar ZM Albelbaisy Raeda.

Last Friday, 11 individuals, including a woman, were charged in the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court with kidnapping Omar to solicit information about a software to hack mobile phones.

Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim said police had yet to confirm Mossad’s involvement in the abduction case.

On Oct 5, it was reported that police rescued the 31-year-old victim a day after he was abducted following the arrest of 18 individuals in Kuala Langat, Ampang and Beranang in Selangor and Melaka in separate operations conducted from Sept 29 to Oct 4.

Meanwhile, on the distribution of seats for Umno in the 15th general election, Ismail, who is the party’s vice-president, said the matter was still being discussed with other component parties under Barisan Nasional.
